Duck with Broken Wing

I know you're probably bummed, and you want to help, but I think the best thing to do is contact a wildlife rehaber and get them out there. Keeping it yourself is an option, but it's not legal in the US, and you would have to weigh the risk vs reward. If you did manage to catch it, having it tested for bird flu might be a good idea. We'll support you with whatever decision you make. :hugs Thanks for caring about this duck.
ok thanks I will keep you posted

What I would do is catch them and keep them in a cardboard box with straw because that will insulate and keep them warm. Take them to a wildlife rehabber or a veterinarian since the duck is wild they can take them ASAP. Disinfect after any interaction. It is illegal to keep wild animals even overnight and the rehabber or facility will put them down if they are in your care too long. If the wing does not heal right they can send the duck to a sanctuary. It is not safe for a duck who cannot fly in the wild.

Welcome to BYC!

We rescued a young injured male pintail a few days ago and he looks to have a broken wing like yours. I was told to tape it into place for a few days. I’m going to try it today. We have 9 pet ducks and I’m hoping once this boy heals up he will intergrate with them since he likely won’t be able to fly.
