Hey all! I have posted before about a duck with a leg issue. Her little foot curls in. We are under vet care and she has been wearing a "shoe" of vet wrap on her little foot to help her walk. It is taken off at night. I noticed this morning that two of her toe nails on the affected foot have turned black and are shorter/broken down. No blood and not seemingly painful for her. I have three theories -- 1. Fungal from the nails staying too moist 2. Trauma -- she caught them in something and they broke 3. They're necrotic which I hope is not the case because it's definitely isolated to the two nails. There is a wound on the middle of the foot which is caused by her walking on that part of the foot. Thoughts on the nails? Is this an ASAP to the vet, or should we wait? Next appointment is in ~2 weeks.

Don’t know anything about duck feet but our bearded dragon lost a few necrotic toes 🤷🏻‍♀️😂
Yes I have seen chickens with toes fall off due to frostbite or similar issues that led to tissue death. But I'm really hoping that isn't what this is :(

Hey all. Didn't get too much attention with the initial injury, but unfortunately, as I had suspected, the foot definitely has a very serious issue and it looks a whole lot like what it looks like when birds get frostbite.

We have a vet appt on Monday. We have been doing TLC with epsom soaks and topical silver sulfadiazine. I imagine she is going to lose part of her foot but I pray she survives. Behaviorally, she is acting totally typical -- eating, preening, sleeping, all of that.

Anyone ever seen anything like this in a duck?

What ended up happening with your duck? I have a pond duckling with the same issue that I’m trying to help
