Duck with respiratory infection

Hi, I didn’t want to create a thread for the same issue so I thought I’d comment here. I got a 5 day old duckling from my bfs coworker, & on the second day we had her we noticed her panting & breathing heavy even though it’s cool enough (she’s in our room) & having breathing problems, like if she’s breathing hard through her nostrils. She is inside & alone, I was going to get her more ducklings but I can’t if she’s sick, It’s against my better judgement to get more ducklings in her condition. Today is the 5th day and she’s about a week and a half old now, she’s eating & drinking, bathing herself when I put her in warm water for her to dunk her head thinking she had something stuck in her nose but after a few baths over the days, it hasn’t gone away. I’m going to Tractor Supply today, is there any medicine that would be good for her if she has a respiratory infection?

Could you take a video of the duckling breathing and upload it to a video platform such as youtube, or Vimeo, and copy/paste the link here?

Yea, I can never hear it unless I bring her bill to my ear unless I pick her up, when I pick her up I can hear her audibly breathing. I also failed to mention that she sneezes too, not all of the time but every here & there, sometimes in a row. I also added a video of her panting. I ended up getting her Tylan 50. I could possibly get a better video of her breathing if I wait long enough, there are times where she breathes loudly for a second or two then stops. The loud thump was her foot hitting the phone.

You said it’s “cool enough” in your room. What’s the temperature, though? For a second week duckling the temperature of their environment should be around 85 degrees Farenheit. Does she have a heat lamp?

Cold stresses them out and makes them more prone to respiratory infections, like mycoplasma. A vet would be able to tell you more. Hope the little one gets better.

The temperature was around 80, since she started panting, I assumed she was cold and lowered it down to 75, but she continued to pant, she does have a heat lamp but always strayed away from it & didn’t like to be in the heat so I stopped using it. I do know the people who had her before just kept her in a small box, no heat lamp & a bunch of holes in both the sides not sure if inside or out, & I don’t know how long they had her for or how she was living in the beginning before them. Where I live most people breed their ducks & chicks like rabbits & don’t care abt their living situation, keep them in cages w a bunch of other ducks & chicks, unkept. I got tylan 50 today & she’s still the same but ofc she’s not gonna heal up right away & it’ll take time for her symptoms to wear off if they, hopefully, do.
