Duck without a bean I need advice

hi everyone
Recently my husband was asked if he wanted a duck and knowing I love them he brought it home . Unfortunately the duck he got came with a broken beak which he had not noticed. The only part that is missing from the bill is the bean , all the rest of the beak is intact. This is new to me. I have five other ducks all that have their bills intact . So my question is what is the bean on the bill used for and what issues if any will this little duckling have without the bean on the tip of the bill. This seems to be an old break and nothing recent . Her bill closes and no tongue is visible . But as soon as I saw her I noticed and came here for advice . Thanks in advance for any advice

I don't have any first hand experience with this, but a while back I saw this boy on petfinder. His beak is tweaked, but the description says he's able to eat, drink and preen just fine.

I'd say it will do fine especially since the tongue isn't showing which could cause it to dry out possibly picture would be great.
