Today we let our 2 ducklings have their first swim. They are 2 weeks old today. I cant believe how much they have grown.

Absolutely adorable!

I dunno why, but my little call ducklings were TERRIFIED of water when they were brooding. They've since gone outside, but STILL would not swim in the dishpan I set out for them. There's a kiddie pool the grown up Cayuga pair use in which to splash around, and the chickens drink from it (ick!) all the time.

But TODAY one little call duck was brave enough to slip into the water from the new step I set for them (hoping!) and she had a wonderful time! The other three gathered around and drank from the pool, watching with curiosity, but did not get into the pool. She got out twice to flap and run around in glee, then back in again. She even did the submarine swim around the whole thing, underwater. (Too shallow for the Cayugas to manage that maneuver.)

My Cayugas loved baby swim sessions. I just dunno why the calls didn't.

I was surprised that they did the submarine swim and they are only 2 weeks old today. This is my first time raising ducklings. Boy do they grow faster than chicks.

When you look up "enthusiasm" in Webster's, it's got a pic of a duckling next to it
