I have two clutches of ducklings. Each in their own brooder box in a spare room of the house. It gets super windy out here and we don’t yet have a shed to put them in. So at first I started using hay but it became such a chore to clean it out multiple times a day. They are little poop factories and the hay is covered in poo within a few hours. So I tried using old towels/blankets and that was even more work. Reason being is I have to wash them off before throwing them in the washer. Now I am using sand.
So my big question is: is it ok that the sand is wet almost all the time? I have little tubs set up in there so they can clean themselves but it does keep the area wet. I didn’t realize I was supposed to dry the sand before putting it in and now the sand is perma-wet. Is this ok? Or will this possibly breed disease?
