duckling brooders?

I used a large tote. Cut out part of the side and cut the middle of the top out, duck taped hardware cloth over cutouts and
then just laid my light on the top. Worked great.

I start my brooders between 86 and 90 degrees for the first few days. The temperature is measured durectly under the heat, at the warmest spot in the brooder. Make sure they have enough space to get away from the heat, and they'll find a comfy spot for them that's just right.

I got my mason-jar feeder bases at Farm & Fleet, but you can find them at any feed store, or Tractor Supply Company, if you have one close by.

I like the Brower model 65 jar bases, myself. They have had to really work at mine to get them to leak, and then it's not been much. Am using a Brower chick brooder for them and lining the bottom pan with butcher paper, which is waxed on one side against water.

okay, duckluck, but you didn't tell us how warm you keep your brooder. (Or did I miss that . . . . . happens sometimes)

I just finished this duck brooder last week and it's messy proof, It has a 2x4 frame covered in hardware cloth and there is a metal dropping tray that fits the frame.
I made sure that the ply board sides are positioned directly over the pan so there is no ledge to collect poop, feed or messy water.
Everything just falls thru the wire to the bottom filled with "stall dry" the ducklings never touch any messy anything.
To clean you simply lift the pen off the metal pan empty replace stall dry and then place the frame back over the pan.

Since I have read so much about having proper traction, I hope it's okay to ask what the material is the ducklings are standing on, and if they have any traction troubles with it?

Do they seem to prefer the lighter material over the wire floor?

They are on Paper Towels I use these for ducklings and chicks and have never had a problem with traction. They move freely from the towels to the wire with no problem in fact they have been running foot races around it most of the day.
I'm using the towels now as they are just 2 days old but will be removing it as they become more comfortable with their surroundings.

Here are my 2 day old chicks on the paper towels never had a problem and I been doing this for 8 years
