Duckling Cam!

Moved the cam to the brooder since the incubator wasn't very active.

Currently we're up to 3!

Well, 05 didn't make it through the night. It looks like it may have ruptured the yolk because there was what seemed to be You'll that had dripped out of the pip when I checked on it this am. Really wish that hadn't happened overnight. I was up at 4am to check on things and didn't notice that something was wrong.

Oh boo that, I'm so sorry. I was there last night when 7 hatched and was waiting for 5 but finally gave up and went to bed. Any word on #3?

We're on the last duckling now. I've been trying to hold back assistance, but that's tough after the death of 05.

The worst part is really that these two were from a duck that I lost recently. She would lay these whopper 100g eggs and I hadn't had a chance to hatch any yet. I have these two and another two in the next batch (but one of those was the maybe two embryos from last night.)

Having lost one means that i'm only down to three shots get offspring from her, and the second one isn't looking great.

It seems to me that there is something very sacred and deep-reaching about hatching. Life and death. Up close.
