Hi,
Need a bit of help.
Due to an odd set of circumstances I ended up with a very young duckling. He had been eating, drinking and pooping. Very vocal and cuddly.
Yesterday he kept trying to poop and would fail a lot of the time.
He was up this morning but wenr back to sleep so was put in bed. Within an hour I checked him and he was upside down on his bed.
He had been given plenty water and was watching chick crumb. I dont kmow if anyone can help explain anything.

Sounds like he was clogged up similar to pasty butt in chickens. If they can't poop it can kill them.

Did he have anything to eat beside chick crumb and water?

Very sorry for your loss:hugs

He was still pooping but looking like he was trying between but nothing coming. He done a big poop last night and a little one through the night.
He had been offered some fruit puree but didn't like it so just chick crumb and water. He was only 4 or 5 days old.

Just very hard to say what happened to the lil one. Something going on inside that you couldn't see. I wish I could give you more but unless a necropsy is done there really isn't a sure way of knowing . I am sorry. In his bed[brooder] you had a heat source set up? what type of bedding were you using?

I figured that would be the case. Thank you for your help. I kinda guessed it would be a heart thing with how quick he went.

Also yeah he had a heat and was using a kids fluffy hat that didnt shed. He liked cuddling into the soft fluff for sleeping.

So nothing you did at all, just something not right with the lil one.

Maybe when you feel like it go get a few ducklings again, they really are wonderful as you have already found out.
