I have one week old ducklings that I have been feeding purina premium flock raiser crumbles that is 20% in protein and adding brewers yeast. From what I have been reading I need to switch to a lower protein once they are about 2 weeks old. I have DuMOR poultry Grower/Finisher the is 15% protein is that ok for them from 2 weeks until they start laying? Also do we take them outside in the yard every few days for about 15 mins to forage and play. Do I need to give them grit still if we want to feed them treats or greens or should they be getting what they need from being outside? Thanks!

I don't know where you are getting that information. Ducklings should be on the starter till at least 5 weeks. They grow so fast they need that extra protien. I don't switch mine over till 7 or 8 weeks. I would put a small bowl of chick grit for them to take free choice. They need grit if they are eating anything but their feed.

Thank you! Most websites say 0-2 weeks 20% protein and from 2 weeks until laying 15-17% protein is that not correct? Also that if given to much protein they can get angle wing. These is our first time just want to make sure I do it right.

I am very sceptical of the angle wing and protein connection. If you want to feed the same food without changing over I heard you can use Purina duck pellets. It would help us if you would add your location to your profile. Since feathers are made of protien, I always want mine on higher protein until they have feathers.

Sorry I am in Western Wisconsin, and we have 3 buff females. Hatched on 6/22

So am I ok keeping them on the Purina premium flock raiser 20% protein until feathered? Or is there a better option for them? This is what I have been going off of https://www.thecapecoop.com/feeding-your-backyard-ducks/ we just want what is is best for the ducklings!

I fed that and was told by knowledgeable people that yes they can actually eat that their entire lives.
I am working with my local feed store to try and get them to carry it. For now mine are on all flock (and I have a limping duck now dang it). Next bag will be flock raiser....if the one store that carries it within an hour of me has any.

Thank you that's good to know! Should I switch when they start laying eggs?
