My new little mallard has a curled foot. I saw something about putting painter's tape. But the babe was just born about 3 hours or less ago. When should I put the tape? Tomorrow maybe?

can you post a pic? Sometimes they straighten out on their own other times they need little shoes out of painter's tape.

If by the time it's dry the foot is still curled I would put a painter's tape "shoe" on it.

(I don't know a lot about ducks but what I know from dealing with chicks with curled feet)
Thank you! I think it's similar for both from the little shoes I Googled. You can't always trust the Google machine though. I wanted to check with some hatchers in here.

I will post in the morning they are all sleeping in the tiny brooder that is so toasty warm. I am always scared they will get hurt in the incubator. I purchased a tiny brooder hot box. Works great and dries them in the same time and then momma duck can get some sleep. I have heard incubator nightmares. bills getting stuck, feet, a wing. Yikes.

I put kale, anchovies and spinach in the blender with water and made a "Lucky duck smoothie" for my quackers. I caught it early enough to fix the pigeon toe problem, but I had to continue the high Niacin diet through out his life or his foot would start to turn in again..

oh wow! I will give that a shot in a day or so if it doesn't clear up. He had a terrible air cell and not as much space as he needed. That very well may have nothing to do with the foot. I did read somewhere they can have issues.
