This is the last of six Ducklings to hatch in our brood. He seemed malpositioned, as when he internally pipped he developed a bruise on his shell. 30 hours ago, we made him an emergency air hole over his PIP. He immediately stuck his billout and has been chirping and peeping ever since. He has not progressed in his positioning or opening his egg at all. Bit by bit we have been removing pieces of the shell around him. It seems as if most of his membrane is clear of veins, however we still see what may be two veins running. We are afraid if we leave him much longer he won’t make it, as he has not moved anything but his bill since being pipped 30 hours ago. On the other hand we are afraid of him bleeding out if we try To assist him and the veins are still active. I am including two photos and I’m hoping someone can let us know if it would be safe to further assist him now. We are not clear if the veins are still concerning. The other Ducklings all finished hatching many hours ago.
