Hello all,

I came across an article by a veterinary clinic about keeping ducklings separated by age groups recently, and that had we worried about my flock I just integrated today.

I put 5 one month old ducklings with my 1 two month old duckling. At night they are with my 13 one and a half month old chicks. During the day the ducks are in their own pen with a tub they can swim in. Is this an acceptable age they can be together? I have watched them carefully and it seems the young ducklings bully the old one more than the old one picks on them . All in all they get along well, just worried because of that article.

Also, about 2 months ago I had 5/6 ducklings die of what I believe to have been duck viral enteritis. They died suddenly with the typical position. When this new brood was 1 week old I had 1/6 die in that same manner, the rest are the ones I have integrated with the lone survivor from the old brood. I am not 100% sure it was DVE, could also have been bacteria from stagnent water as I changed it once a week. Now I change it about every 2 days. All the ducks and chicks are in the same pen 5/6 of the old brood died in. I did this because the site said the virus is transmitted by wild water fowl, infected water, or rats but I did not see mention of the soil; furthermore it is the only usable facility I have for chicks/ducklings. Any advice or comments would be most welcome.

Thank you so much for reading this long message.
