Duckling - Naval Infection or Pasty Butt?

We have several temperature guages. They all read the same. He's getting better!!! He's running around with the other ducks and eating and drinking. They will be one week old Wednesday. They can have a swim then if the lil ones navel is healed. I soaked last night in epsom salts because I wanted to put that iodine on his navel - I don't want to do too much traumatic stuff to him all at the same time. And because of the bacitrin, which was causing the poop that did come out to hover around his poop hole. I didn't re-bacitrin because I want the fluff to dry out and not stick.

I think we're over the worst of it. Thank you all for your input and help! I will periodically update and see if I can get some pictures of his happiness.

That's great to hear, again no need to keep soaking him, once he's a week old, swim time will help a lot. He'll be ok, sounds like he just got pasty butt and now he's all unclogged. LOL

Yes, but I've never heard of pasty butt where the feathers are just so tightly closed that you can't see any poop. That's nuts.

So happy to hear your lil one is doing so much better.

It was brought to my attention by a friend and I felt the need to make a correction on my part. I mentions ducks having two holes and apparently I have mistaken, they do only have one, the pic of my duck with the two, the top one was is actually his belly button, it's not a hole. Yes of course I had to double take, triple take and 10 times do a take but it appears, that this is not a second or a first hole after all. Lol

So I'm sorry for giving anyone misinformation..,

I wondered too! I figured the one was the belly button, but I kept looking for another one and couldn't find it. I looked for duck anatomy online to see what I was doing wrong and they DON'T HAVE duck anatomy drawings like they do for chickens.

No biggie, all of your help was greatly appreciated!!!

Update on the lil one - he/she is doing fine, still half the size of the other ducklings, but at least they're all growing at the same rate now!! They had a tub of water in their pen - 2 of them started zooming around, but the other three just kind of looked at it like it would eat them. They also got some new grass in tiny bite-size pieces (they have access to grit with this) and gobbled it down. We passed the week mark Tues and next Tues they're moving into bigger digs.

I had my daughter take pictures of the lil one, but then she couldn't figure out how to get the pictures onto my computer. We will work on it

AWW, that's great, he may stay small because of the delay, but sometimes they grow like Wild fire,so he may end up being bigger then the others. LOL. I love it when they do there impression of a Dolphin. OMG, the under water swimming. LOL. I have two little tiny calls that will be a week old tomorrow, so they get to take there First swimming lesson and I can see one of them is DYING to do it.

He is SOOOO ready. I catch him everyday, trying to put his entire head in the water bowl. He doesn't have much luck but he tries... LOL

They are so fun when they get into the water thing! Our one original duck is finally laying! 5 eggs in 5 days!! I was afraid she would be too unhappy by herself. She will go berserk when she finally has water dabble company again! Now, just need to get their own separate pen built. Ms. Duck is just too bossy with the chickens.... We have a cage/fence thing (homemade) inside the chicken house that will allow them to see each other and interact without touching. Now I just have to wait for the lil ones to grow up! (This is a picture from before the duckling issue, my daughter has to upload the photos to her computer and then transfer them onto a stick, so they can go onto my computer - waiting on her to get her part done LOL)
