Duckling PIC HEAVY!!

They are ADORABLE!!!!

I'm planning on sneaking into the car today and going to TSC to see if they have any pekins. I need some females BAD!!!!!!

P.s. - mberry... he looks rouen to me... not sure about the solid dark one.

I'm pretty sure the black one is a cayuga, but couldn't tell if the other one was a rouen or mallard.

According to mojo, 2 stripes mean a rouen. That looks like 2 stripes to me.

I picked mine up at TSC. They were almost out of pekins! They had two kinds, the yellow and striped ones. My hubby told me to get 4 or 5, I came home with 6!! Had to get an even number of each right??

He is so tolerant of me! Gotta love him!!

We named two of them so far. The big yellow one with the very orange beak, the showboat, is named Puddles. There is one mallard with a yellow dot on the back of it's head, doesn't stop talking when I hold it, is named Quackers. Now I just need 4 more names. Ones that go for boy or girl so I don't have to change them.

Loving this.

Oh bummer. TSC only had Pekin ducks, straight run with a minimium purchase of 6. I only needed 1 or 2, and I REALLY needed a female, so I needed them sexed.

So I drop all the way to the bird farm in Holly Springs and 1 sexed female was $9!!!

I just couldn't go home empty handed so I brought one loner back with me. She did not run from me, and she's super cuddley unlike the rest.... so she is now home

TSC bummed me out... ALL their chicks were either "assorted Reds" or "Assorted banties" none were sexed and you had NO idea what they were?!!?

Several confused people were there to get some and didn't end up buying any. (But I got 2 of my silkies that are supposed to hatch on the 7th sold I think?! LOL)

My feed store has hatchery choice ducks only. I bought 2 then I decided that if something happens to one- the other would be lonely. So, I got a third one (a khaki campbell) and my Mother said you can't have just 3. You need pairs. So, I went and got a 4th duckling(pekin) If I have to have a pair, so do you!

Four different breeds and no idea what sex.

Are you telling me my camera is amazing?

BTW The TSS I went to didn't have a minimum. The lady working there didn't have a clue about them either. They should at least encourage their employees to learn about them so they can help customers better. She was also very rude when I asked, in her oppinion I guess, too many questions. Isn't it amazing how customer service has gone way downhill in recent years?

I went to the feed store to get my goslings yesterday, yes I finally got some, and the kids working there tried to answer my questions and told me they could ask someone if they didn't know the answer. I'm such a sucker, they had turkey poults too, and I came home with two of those!! I'll get some more pics in a few.

I'm going to show the difference in size between 3 day old geese and 1-2 week old ducks. It's crazy. Gotta go get camera!!

Ok i know everyone else has said Pekins, but those REALLY REALLY look like buffs to me. Pekins have a whitish yellow tint and Buffs have a more Golden brown tinted fluff. The only way i know how to tell Rouens and Mallard apart is to wait 2 or 3 weeks. If they are massive (2 or 3x the size of your hand) its gonna be a Rouen. Real mallards are smaller.

The ones they say are mallards are very small compared to the others. I'm not really concerned if they are pekins or buffs, either way they will be great to have around. I guess the only true way to figure out what you get from deals like TSC is wait and see. I just love to show folks my babies.
