I have a question about when to move them outside. I'm concerned of overcrowding them. I have 5 now, and will be getting another 5 next week. What age should I move them to the coop? (I won't be able to put a heat lamp in the coop, though)
6-8 weeks depending on breed. Basically, you want to drop the temp 5 degrees per week. 90 the first week then 85, 80 etc. When they are fully feathered or your outside temp matches what they are used to you can move them out.
I put myy 6 Rouens outside at about 1 week old but I'm in Florida. They do have a light for heat but it has only dipped into the 50's a few times overnight since they've been outside.
FYI it is MUCH easier to brood them outside. Little stinkers.
