Duckling severely cut beak while hatching

Hey everybody!
I had a Cayuga/Rouen duck hatch today with minimum issues but with blood, and it turns out the beak has been severely cut during hatching. I have non-pain relieving Neosporin on it but I cannot seem to find any info on this anywhere. This is my first time hatching babies and I’m just a little concerned

Wow that is so odd I have never seen anything like this happen before with a duckling hatching. Thankfully that looks like it's just the top scraped off and not a broken bill. Bill scrapes will heal if kept clean and the original Neosporin is good to keep on it. Make sure the duckling has clean water that's deep enough to dunk it's head so the bill stays clean and I would keep a close eye on the other ducklings since they may try to pick at it. A poultry vitamin supplement would also be good. I always dose new ducklings with one for their first week, but the extra vitamins also are great for helping the body to heal and cope with stress.

Poor little one, how in the world did he manage that!
I agree with what HollowOfWisps said. I will just add that I'd personally separate the little guy (see but no touch) for a couple days to ensure no one picks at the wound. Just as a pre-caution.

In my experience bill injuries tend to heal fairly quickly, so I'm sure he'll be okay

You guys are the best!
The duckling has perked up over night and it looks to be healing right along. I think zipping with that cut took a lot out of the little guy. I’ve never seen an egg shell do this to a baby so it’s uncharted territory for me. Here’s an updated pic of the beak and a bonus picture of the cutest duck feet I’ve ever seen

This is my first one with them and it melted my heart when it first hatched!
