Duckling swollen hock joint

How’s the little one doing today ?
He's doing OK actually! His leg seems to have come down a tiny bit, but not an awful lot. He's managing to get around though. He's coming out from under the heat to drink and eat, which he wasn't doing before.

I'm really hoping for the best. I've got an appointment at the vet to see if they have any more suggestions to help him x

have you taken a look at the links miss Lydia sent?

I agree he should be separated for now as they could hurt him
Some ducklings need 24 hours to get their bodies going after hatch
Did he hatch on his own ? Was it assisted ? Did he struggle while hatching ?
Make sure he has something that isn’t slippery when trying to get around
You can add sugar to the water to help boost him but he really may not want much feed or water at this point it’s not even been a day yet
The yolk can keep them going for 48 hours or so after hatching
I had one that took 2 days for his feet and legs to get relaxed
I'm so sorry, I didn't see this reply before. He was assisted. His foot was over his head so he couldn't zip. He was a few days late too.

I have separated him now and I'm looking into helping the potential slipped tendon back in. Hate the thought of it though!

When they can't bend their leg down straight that is usually what it is hopefully since its young the OP can work with it and fix it.

So I've given this a go, tried straightening his leg backwards. It just won't straighten though and I'm worried if I push it, it'll break. I also had my thumb and finger on the hock and couldn't really feel any movement. He was chirping a lot too, presumably in pain :(

Is this normal? Should I keep trying? tja

sounds like a slipped tendon, you may be able to run your fingers gently down the back of the leg and put it back in place.
so I've given this a go and his leg just doesn't seem to be straightening. I've pulled it back and rubbed the hock between my thumb and finger, but I can't really feel any movement. I'm worried I'll hurt his leg even more. He's also chirping, presumably in pain.

Is this normal? Should I just try again?

Thank you so much for your advice, I really appreciate it :)
