I just had this cutie hatch out this evening. Unfortunately somehow it’s beak got injured. It’s active, alert, and drinking. Are there any chances of it recovering? What steps do I need to take? Unfortunately the only bird vet around me is out of state for the next week.

Offer the duckling deep water to drink and liquid food -- add lots of water to duckling crumbles making it liquid, in a deep bowl, so the duckling can easily slurp the liquid food.

I have a duck with an injured beak: he sort of plows his food around. I feed him in a deep bowl so the pellets don't just go over the side. I think before I adopted him, he may not have had deep bowl feeding as he was very thin, and he is still as a 15 month old drake, smaller than my other pekins. But he is able to eat just fine with a deep bowl. When I give him peas as a treat, I give them in the bottom of a plastic cup that narrows to the bottom. Some of the peas get smashed up, but he is able to get some into his beak and eat them. I give him cherry tomatoes one at a time in my cupped hands so that it is retained if he knocks it away instead of getting it into his beak.

Your duckling's beak will never look pretty, but the duck will be fine with a little help with the feeding. There is nothing a vet can do so don't worry that your vet is away.
