Duckling with unpreened back?

I have a call duck whose back is looking rather odd. They have access to water and warmth but this one isnt as fluffy and you can see the skin here.

I have a call duck whose back is looking rather odd. They have access to water and warmth but this one isnt as fluffy and you can see the skin here.

It's just a baby, it may not be perfect at cleaning itself.

At that age they should not have access to swimming water unattended, they shouldn't be able to climb in the water dish either, it can risk them becoming chilled and waterlogged. They just need water deep enough to dunk their heads and drink from, that they cannot climb into.

For this little one, simply hold him and use a warm damp sponge to clean his back off, then dry him up with paper towels and put him back in the warmth.
