Ducklings and foraging

Mrs Fluffy - That's really cool how you "trained" them! Did the little ones grow up with the bigger ducks or are they still separated? That's something i've always wondered about - if/when we get more ducks - will they take on the bad habits of the current ducks or will they learn from us first before we add them into the flock.

No, I've had my three adult ducks since last year and I've only had the ducklings for three weeks. I put them in the kitty pool in the big duck pen, Inky wasn't too happy. I brought Inky up to the yard with the ducklings to see how he'd act and he tryed to bite them while I was holding them. I am not going to put them together until they are old enough to fend for themselves. Inky is a big boy, and could hurt them badly if he wanted to. The Calls....well I doubt they could so much damage! LOL

Once the two ducklings are added to the big duck pen, I am going to keep taking them out every day and let them help me in the garden. It gives up some social time, and they eat the nasty creepy crawlies that we do not like and are bad for the garden. We try and keep them from eating too many worms as they are so good for the soil in the garden.
