Ducklings D~u~c~k~l~i~n~g~s

They are such pretty ducks. Maybe, you could fence in a large area and clip their wings. They need to have a suitable pond or they will be unhappy. Domesticated ducks that are realesed in the wild usually don't survive. You could put a tracker on one so it can roam, but never get to far away. I don't know.

Clipping their wings makes them more susceptible to predators, plus they are beautiful when they fly. I think mine left to find mates, they were two guys, but the experience was awesome and now I have five cayugas.

I mean look at those little buggers How can you clip their wings. thats like breaking your kids legs so they won't cross the street.

Well, you only cut the very bottom feathers, so they can't fly far away, but they can still fly away from predators. I read about that in a special magazine comepletely dedicated to ducks.
They should be in wide open areas, with a spacious pond. I hope that your ducks come back with a family one day!

If you really like the look of Mallards, but don't want them to fly away, you could always go with Ro.uens. Theyt are a little different, but are completely domesticated.

There are more pics of my Rouens on my BYC page.

rgn87, How long have you had your cayugas? Where did you get them from? Have you ever got an egg that was "remotely" black?

I've got one coming with a few other breeds from Metzers in a few weeks

I got my cayuga about seven weeks ago from idealpoultry. I ordered six but one passed away. They haven't begun to lay yet but I am very excited. They are HUGE they are about the size of my mallards were after four months. i am real happy with them. Its hard on this site not to want other breeds too, like I love the khaki campbell.
