Ducklings died after drinking water

Just following along for future reference:

If you have a brooder with a small dish of room temp water at all times, Young ducklings (2-14 days old) will regulate their own intake correct and not suffer from this issue?

If you have a brooder with a small dish of room temp water at all times, Young ducklings (2-14 days old) will regulate their own intake correct and not suffer from this issue?

Mine do also but to keep them from emptying their water container I make one they can only stick their heads into and can't splash the water out very well.
