Ducklings eating shavings?

Quote:
Personally I do like the pellets better. The shavings get a very sour smell if they get wet, and with ducks you KNOW they are going to get wet!! With the pellets you basically need to 'fluff' them for a few days, then change it once or twice a week, depending of course on how big of a brooder you have, how many babies you have in the brooder, and how old they are. You'll know when it needs changed!

I'm also going to start using the pellets with my quail chicks, they like to spill their water too. Plus they get stinky real fast on their own, plus the sour bedding on top of that? EWW!!! Just be sure if you do use the pellets that you poor a cup or so of water in there to get them to break down some, it's much easier on their feet that way

Ok, I just tried putting in my shavings, and my ducks and goose went after them like they were candy! Did not stop even after a few minutes. Some of my chicks were going after them too.
I am totally freaked out. I went ahead and covered them with a the blanket I usually use in the brooder.
At two weeks old shouldn't they be old enough for shavings??

They're going to taste, play with and root around in anything that's new in their environment. Relax and let them have their fun.

Relax? Don't worry?

Easier said than done.'
I know, I keep telling myself millions of people raise chicks and ducklings on shavings with no problems; but it is not easing my mine when I watch them gobble them up!!
I am going to leave the blanket on today and let them root around in the corners (like they are already doing).
Hopefully by tomorrow they won't be quite so excited about the shavings when I take the blanket off.
