Hello!

I recently purchased a small batch (10) of white pekin ducklings. They all seem to be healthy. They eat, drink, and play; however, one of my little duckling's eyes

appears to be infected. I am not sure what exactly is wrong or how to fix it.

They were two days old when I bought them and I have had them for almost two weeks.

Any advice is appreciated. Thank you.

If they don't have a way to frequently wash their heads, they can get eye infections.

On the Duck Forum there is a Sticky about Raising Ducklings that includes mention of a head washer.

At this point, I would gently rinse the eye in a mild saline solution four times a day until it clears up. I would also put a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar in a quart of water and let the duckling wash his or her little head in that.

Please join us on the Duck Forum if you have not already.

Little duckling's eye is better! Picked him up today and realized I could "move" what looked like an infection. Gently used a qtip and my thumb to squeeze what appears to be a bit of shaving or something from his little eye...all better! Keeps shaking his head but seems happy:)

WOOT!

They can get things like that in their eyes - we have had that here with our adult ducks. Just keep rinsing the eye for a day or two if you can - to prevent infection from any possible scratches.

Yay!
