Ducklings Hatching - PLEASE HELP & SEE PICTURE OF BUMP ON DUCKLINGS BELLY

I had one I had to assist this morning it pipped externally sat and still hadn’t hatched. With my help it hatched this morning and was dragging the yolk sac around. Then that part fell off and it’s belly looked like your pic. I had another duckling hatch out on it own overnight and I think it ruptured it. I removed the other duckling and put it in the brooder with 2 that hatched out over the weekend so it’s by itself in the incubator. Hubby thinks it may reabsorb it but I don’t think it will. I have it resting by itself and got it to where it’s wing wasn’t sticking to its body. When I was peeling back the shell it’s membrane was very sticky and thick mucous like. This was the best hatch I’ve had since March. I got 6/9 this time unless this one doesn’t make it then it’ll be 5/9. Sadly my last 2 adults got eaten by foxes yesterday morning. Im
Switching over to chickens with these last 5-6 pekin and 2 mallards.
Hi! can you get a photo of the duckling and the yolk sac?
Ducklings take a long time to hatch, after external pip they could still take one or even two days before the zip. You must be patient. When assisting, you must not hatch them fully if they are yawning or chewing, or if you see yolk. This baby was premature.

The most dangerous thing that you can do in this situation is leave them in the incubator or brooder with other ducklings. This is how the yolk sac could rupture and get infected.
Put the duckling asap in a cup lined with clean dry papertowels. Put the cup into the incubator and wait for whatever is left of the yolk to absorb. The duckling cannot be left with the other babies, or left loose where the yolk can be stepped on.
Please do this and share photos asap so we can see how likely it is that baby will survive?

After you said that, i started looking through this forum and came to that conclusion as well. this is probably why mama rejected it, i really think she knew... I should have not interfered and let nature take its course... but since i did, I'm just going to keep him/her resting peacefully and as long as he/she isn't in pain ( which right now shes just really sleepy, she hasn't moved much since hatch, just been sleeping...I'll just keep her comfy until shes no longer comfy. I'm going to hope for a good outcome, but if she suffers i'll put her down.

How do these happen? What caused this? Off to research.

This was my duck's first set of babies. The Drake was a new duck to me given from a friend who has many ducks, after my coop got invaded by raccons and only the mama survived. They hit it off and mated, and mate constantly, my concern is if this is hereditary... could this happen again in future nests?

Poor sweet ducky <3
I have the same thing on my newly hatched duckling. Did your live...?😭 This one is chirping and moving like the other one did but it's so tiny.

@Buggies Duckies can you post a picture? usually, as long as you place the duckling in something to keep them from dragging the yolk across the floor of the bator and risk it getting snagged they finish absorbing so putting your duckling on a fresh dry paper towel inside a cup gives it time to finish absorbing. How is the duckling doing? did you assist this duckling? :welcome

Sadly it did not survive the night. No I did not assist the hatching of it. It took a long time to come out but managed on it's own.thank you for getting back to me. Hopefully the next person to find this post will know what to do.

There is a large... placenta looking like thing attached to his belly that I've never noticed on other ducks before. I've never hatched them on my own tho either, the mama ducks always do it, and i leave them to their own and give her space for a couple of days.... I'm really unsure what it is.... Is it a placenta? will it fall off? or is it a tumor? I have no idea. If its a tumor it might be the reason she was rejecting it.... if not and its normal for ducks to be born with this..... well then that will be good lmao. Anyone experienced with hatchlings do they normally have a ball like placenta thing on their belly?
This happened to me too! I found him outside of the nest today, nearly motionless and with his head down (couldn't lift it). I brought him inside, gave him some sugar water and put him in a brooder. Poor little guy was too weak to lift his head; now he sort of stumbles around. I haven't seen him walk yet--he hatched about 24 hours ago--but I'm hoping for the best... He's chirping now too, and that little bump on the stomach maybe seems a little smaller? Idk.
Does anyone have any more advice on what to do for him?

Just keep him in a safe smooth area. Someone told me once to wrap something soft around it so it doesn't get ripped off but I never got the chance to try it.it should slowly shrink. Good luck hopefully you can save him.

Sounds like the yolk is finishing absorbing. Can you get a good picture? Don’t touch this place.
I didn’t get a picture, sorry. Unfortunately after a day or so of seemingly getting better (the duckling was peeping and moving around quite a bit) he got much weaker and eventually died. By that point, his yolk did seem absorbed, but he hadn’t really eaten or drank. I used a syringe to give him some sugar water, which he had seemed to swallow. But, eventually he stopped moving (except for shaking his head back and forth) and his eyes sort of sealed shut. Thinking it was maybe Riemerella anatipestifer Infection? He was peeping almost to the end though. Poor guy :(
