My first duckling has hatched and is flopping around the incubator now. I can't wait for him to dry and fluff up. For those of you who have hatched before...how long do I leave him in the incubator before moving him to a brooder? And is there usually a "glob" of blood vessels in the top of the eggshell? There is one with this duckling and I wondered if it was something to worry about.

I've never seen a glod of blood vessels before, but on our last hatch we left her in the incubator for 2 days so she could dry off and get used to her new world. we did put a little bit of food and water in too though.

it's so cute, what breed?

my ducklings hatch and leave behind a very messy shell too. Not like chicken egg shells either. I'd say that looks normal; as far as I've seen anyways. Cute baby duck! Have fun!

They are Pekin ducks...from my own pair...I'm a grandma! My refrigerated egg is pipping this morning, little beak sticking out of the shell!
