ducklings: integrating flock, cold weather, adjusting them to cold weather

working on shoring up their febce, babies and big “kids” have switched sides of the run and I hear screaming - my freakin drake has one of the babies through the chicken wire fence!! it took all my willpower not to choke him right then and there! I let the big kids free range because I needed them out of my sight and grasp... it’s gonna be a long winter
Hmm?..Can you put up plywood at Duck height to keep them separated?..

Or hard ware cloth so they can still see each other? Glad you were there to break that up.
I use plywood at Duck height so the young Ducks just see over and the Drake can't reach through. Your idea would work too. I have two separate pens though with two Drakes so during breeding season I try to eliminate how much they see each other..

I have them separated by chicken wire, and a play yard fence - their house is in the middle of the run so it was a feat to separate them with what I have on hand... inside their house the extra panels of the play yard keep them apart.
I don’t think I have short pieces of plywood, I’ll go look in the barn.
For now the big ducks are free ranging (they’re super excited about this) and the babies have the “big side” of the pen with the pool :D

We definitely always need to change things up..:th..What worked great yesterday doesn't always work today..:gig..Always fun on the farm...:wee
