I have ducks and chickens living together and am concerned that I have a duck that may have Asper's cough or worm. I wonder if the chickens and ducks can be wormed naturally through feed TOGETHER? For the next few (last days of winter) cannot separate them. Any help is better than none... thanks!

through feed...
Ah, okay. Some people do make a mash using Valbazen (albendazole) or Safeguard (fenbendazole), but it would be better to orally dose the one showing symptoms.

If you don't want the hassle of treating each bird you could try feeding it to them in a mash. If I were going to do that this is how I would do it.

  1. Count number of birds to be treated.
  2. Estimate the weight of each bird.
  3. Calculate flock weight. For example, if you have 10 leghorns at ~4 pounds each and 10 RIR's at 6 pounds each, that's 100 pounds of birds.
  4. Calculate the amount of Safeguard or Valbazen needed. In my example I'll use Valbazen at 20 mg/kg. Math is 100 (weight of flock) divide by 2.2 (this converts to kg) times (the dose needed - 20) divide by 113.6 (the amount of medication in one ml) 100 ÷ 2.2 x 20 ÷ 113.6= 8 ml
  5. Set aside the amount of pellets or crumbles they will eat in a day in a big container.
  6. Mix the 8 ml of Valbazen in some amount of water, two cups maybe? Add the water/Valbazen mixture to the crumbles, stir a little, then add more water until the feed is nice and wet. Mix *very* well.
  7. Repeat for three days and this should treat large roundworms, cecal worms, capillary worms, and gapeworms.

You are a gift! Thanks so much. I am leaning toward treating the one duck and maybe the 10 ducks apart from chickens when I can
