Ducks and Chickens Together?

Having ducks and cooks in the same pen doesn't matter, i know this because iv'e got chooks and ducks in the same pen, but the duck mightn't come, you have just got to train it to come back at night for food it works for me hope it works for you!

Ok so long set up.

So I have 13 hens (red stars) a Roo Light Brahma all fully grown, and a mix of 16 chicks, 3 homegrown from the stars and the rest I bought at TCP, they are all 9 weeks old. My friend has 2 ducks and came outside one day and behold ducklings!! He has some chickens who are broody, but has no roo. I have more then one Roo in the group of baby's. I don't want any more Roo's as our big guy is quite the handful as it is. My friend wants chicks so he wants to trade ducklings for a Roo. Should I do this and when? And can I mix the ducks in safely? Some Ducklings are 5 days old and they just hatched more ducklings out today!!!

I have a related question. I have a standing flock of 8 hens and am looking at adding a couple ducks to the mix. Is it ok for them to have the same feed? Can anyone recommend something that works for both chickens and ducks?

I'm about to add ducks to my flock of 10 hens and was wondering what the answer is to this question. Anyone out there with answers?

I have 4 Pekin Ducks and 4 Chickens together in the same run. My ducks and chicks all eat the same thing. I use the Dumor chick finisher/grower (TSC) for them now, they are all about 5 months old. Must warn u though ducks are very messy and require alot of feed and clean water all the time. My ducks and chickens eat all my left over dinner items also. (provided yours are old enough).

Regular crumble is fine. Don't give ducklings or ducks the medicated starter stuff.

Make sure the ducks have some cover so the roosting chickens don't drop 'bombs' on them at night.

One other note- ducks need to be able to stick their bill into water after they eat. They also have a bad habit of dirtying up their water. A duck water dish on the floor and a chicken watering container higher helps this.

Probably, as long as the ducks don't have to lay under the chickens roost where they would get pooped on, but before breeding starts up in spring and depending on where you live that could even be in Jan. you'll need to remove your ducks, drake especially from your hens, Some drakes will try and mate with chickens and it won't go well for the hens.

thank you for your help, i live in toronto ontario and the winters are long the only other choice i have is to put them in a 4 by 5 cage till march.
