Ducks and chicks

A guy I know has a duck, not sure what breed it is, but I am pretty sure it is an adult. Anyways, the duck is the only animal he has on 8 acres and he wants to get a friend for it so he is thinking about adopting a 3 week old chick we have the bird rehab center I work at. Is this a good idea? Will the age difference be a problem? I don't want to see the chick get picked on or be lonely without any other chickens. Has anyone here every kept just a chicken and duck together?
