I have a large hova-bator with the automatic egg turner. I also have 4 chicken eggs and a group of VERY excited kindergartners. Here's my problem and question-
I ordered some duck eggs but they aren't coming for another 7 days. Can I start my chicken eggs, then add my duck eggs, then when it is time for lockdown, remove most of the racks of my auto-turner and keep the duck eggs turning and the lay the chicken eggs on the bottom for hatching?
Or am I just feeding into the crazy impatience of 5 year olds? My original plan was to only hatch the duck eggs and leave the chicken eggs to the other teachers. . .
Please advise. . . .

I am not an expert, but from all I have heard it is not smart or safe to try to hatch ducks and chickens in the same bator. The humidity for ducks need to be much higher. Just my opinion. Sounds like fun though! Watching any type of poultry hatch is mesmerizing, the children will love it!!!

When I hatched both for my preschool class, I put the duck eggs in and then a week later put the chick eggs in.
I did have to separate the chicks as we had one nasty little bugger hatch out and picked on the ducklings.
