Hello everyone, I have a question. One of my 2 ducks passed away recently, and as ducks arevery social beings, we wanted to get a new companion duck right away for the one we currently have. However, we are a little paranoid the new duckling we would buy will have covid on his feathers. It may sound a little paranoical but this virus has scarred us all in different ways. Aynone have any tips on what we can do?

Hi, I understand you concerns, this is a difficult time. Of course as a live animal you can’t wipe it down with Lysol. Most hatcheries have a limit of at least two birds anyway. Your duck needs to have a friend, she may go into a depression if she is without any other animal. That could be bad for her health. A duckling will not give you Covid-19 so there are no worries- but I can understand why you would worry!

Thank you for the clarification everyone :)
We have a cat and a dog in our house as well however they do not interact with our duck often. Still, could their presence help until the duckling arrives?

Absolutely not going to get COVID from Duck feathers.

Put a stuffed animal in her crate for now... I know they do that with lone chicks so maybe it will work on the duck until you can find her a friend.
