Ducks and drakes

Hello,
We are ordering ducklings soon. We have done chickens for years but this will be our first adventure with ducks. We will have a mixed breed flock.
I am looking at Welsh Harlequins, a Cayuga, a Saxony, Pekins, a Silver Appleyard, a runner. We are thinking of adding a drake. Which breed would you consider making the drake from? Thanks

I'd pick a drake from one of the smaller breeds, just to make things easier on the females. Aside from that, just pick whichever one you like the looks of best I'm partial to welsh harlequin drakes, since I love the snowy color.

Agree - choose a drake that is NOT from one of the larger breeds (Silver Appleyard, Pekin, Saxony) because they could hurt the smaller girls (Runner, Welsh and Cayuga). Not saying all will hurt them, but better be safe than sorry... Can't wait to see pics of your ducklings!

I loved my Silver Appleyard Drake he was not aggressive with his Hens.

The smaller the drake the less damage to your smaller light weight females. Please let us know what you decide on breeds and your drake. I can vouch for my Runner drake he has 6 females and has never been aggressive with them .
