I was wondering if it is possible to keep ducks and geese together? I already have two Rouen ladies and I was thinking of adding two Toulouse ladies. But I would have to keep them in the same area. Is it possible, or do they need different pens?

It's possible but it really depends on the individual birds. Some can coexist just fine while others are just too aggressive.

Sure you can. I have had the mix for years. Geese with cayuga ducks, muskovies, mallards, roens, call ducks. The only problem I ever had was the geese being aggressive when it comes feeding time. Tyhe geese like to be the first at the feeding dishes. If there are ducks around the geese will shoo them away until they are done then the ducks get their turn at the rest. Geese aren't big eaters so there will always be food available after the geese are done.

I have not had any issues with sleeping quarters, ducklings being harmed. Geese are clumsy and don't pay attention half the time where they put their feet. I have had duckling issues a few times from being stepped on but that is about it. Sometimes male geese can be aggressive during the mating season and can do a little damage if the ducks are in the way.

Different geese different traits I guess in the long run. Shouldn't be much for issues but do keep an eye this time of year...mating time. Have fun with the mix... Steve.

As Kevin565 said, it varies from goose to goose. My American Buff geese got along great with the ducks till mating season and the drake wanted to claim the goose. After my goose died from being egg bound, my gander gets along great with the ducks. He feels that he needs to protect the ducks from the evil forces of chickens.

Once Boris(gander) and the rooster worked out their positions everyone gets along fine now.

I have heard horror stories and love stories. It all depends on the geese. I would say that it varies from breed to breed. My friend has embdens and they had to be separated from the ducks because of aggression. I have heard of Chinese geese known for aggression, being very protective of the ducks in their flock. I have a tendency to think that 2 female toulouse would be fine with ducks. My experience is not that long with geese. I have had geese for almost a year. Good luck on your decision.

Well, right now the ducks are in the goose yard looking for worms and one of my embdens in yelling her head off because they got too close to her outside nest. It doesn't even have any eggs in it. Housing mine all together would be catastrophic.
