I'm just curious. I see a lot of folks here using bators to hatch out eggs. I am wondering how many of you use a bator instead of Mom bird and why? Or Mom bird and not a bator. I am not judging just hoping to learn. My Welsh Harlequin couple is nearing the age where she will begin to lay and want to learn.

Teach me oh wise ones.

Only duck here, i don't even own an incubator. I now even have silkies mature enough to play 'broody' if i need be. I like my ducks raised by ducks they are better foragers and get with the program better than ducks raised by me.

The only thing is when they raise their own is the fact it does not eliminate all the issues, eggs don't hatch, babies die.. yes, they have better control IMO than a man made incubator but it doesn't mean it's easy sailing. Plus not all ducks make good mamas, or good broodies or either lol

I have one of the most notorious breeds for being broody Muscovy, those can be a handful lol Already had two successful clutches this year, a third is a maybe and a 4th she's still 'baking' lol

Good luck.
