Ducks and seeds

I will be free ranging my Scovies later this spring and summer and we have a lot of different grasses & weeds that produce seed. I expect my Scovies will be eating them. I've seen them strip bark from the branches of white pine. I give them cracked corn mixed with a nice bird seed that has millet, BOSS, and some safflower mixed w/mash twice a day as a snack, well if the chooks don't eat it all first

, as well as some greens and bits of fruit in their water bowl. They also have pellet/mash available free choice which they just love.

I've seen them eating out of a bowl of sand and small gravel for grit so it looks to me that they know what they need to process the food they eat.

Aren't seeds really the eggs of the plant world? And eggs are full of concentrated nutrition in order to give the next generation the best possible start.
