Ducks are so funny

My two girls wait for me to tuck them in at night too! They walk right in when it’s dark if I just “shoo” my hands at them. My Cayuga is water crazy (who’s duck isn’t?) but when I’m filling their tub she will run up and down the ramp checking to see if it’s filled and as soon as I take the hose out she darts over and dives in. Sometimes she’ll zip around so fast she flies out out the tub! But she just stands up and runs back in.

When my ducks were younger I was outside with them around sunset and once it got dark they started crying and running around! I couldn’t calm them by talking to them but when I got on the ground to be at their level both girls came running up to me and snuggled onto my lap! It was the sweetest moment. I must’ve sat there with them for a good 40+ minutes, eventually my husband came to see what was taking me so long and we laughed at the babies scared of the dark! I couldn’t bring myself to move them, they were so sweet, but eventually they had to go to bed...

Ducks are so goofy.

I also get my Cayuga to spin for her food- that’s fun.

Fun thread.
I always get a laugh or smile watching my girls.
I had them out in the yard with my kids on the weekend. Every time my 4 year old son would turn his back, Peggy, who I thought was low girl on the totem pole and afraid of everything, put her head down and charged. As soon as I laughed and told my son to turn around and look, she would stop and toodle back to her sisters. And over, and over, and over. So entertaining! We were all getting a good laugh.

I just wanted to share some things my ducks do that make me happy or that I find funny. Some of my family do not think they are as entertaining as I do so I figured I was in good company here......

Tonight I got home from work when it was after dark. When I went to put them up for the night, they were right outside the shed I keep them in. The door to the shed was open and had a dim night light so they knew exactly where it was. Once I walked up to the shed, they waddled right in. I just laughed that they were waiting for me to tuck them in! Lol.

I also dumped and refilled their pool today. I have a Pekin, black swedish, and cayugas. My Husband called to tell me at work that my Pekin was disgusting. She had mud caked all over her face and chest from nicely making holes in my yard for planting bulbs.:lau All the rest of the ducks were playing in the mud right along with her but it’s just so much more noticeable on her white feathers. I wish I had a picture of the little piglet because she’s so funny when she’s filthy!

Have any funny stories?
My ducks have been doing the same thing. It's been down to 30 degrees and they huddle in the middle of their pen. It's like they can't go into their house unless I put them there! It's crazy!

I think it is routine and they really like the interaction. I go out for final rounds in the evening....goats, chickens, and ducks.....they know the "Routine" and will meet me at each spot while I'm rinsing and filling their tub, topping off the pellets, and tossing a fresh layer of hay in their pen to bed down in....then, I usually stand in their yard while they are billing in the purposely overfilled bucket runoff and watch them and will talk to them....after about 15-20 mins I'll ask if it is time....and a couple will start to head to their pen and I'll say okay Little Man....what I call the drake....line em up and take em in....they'll line up and waddle into their pen....every once in awhile there will be one that will wait til I get to the door and just before it is shut, she will dart out making a noise that sounds like a laugh and when I go to herd her back they will all run out and around the yard....so, I'll laugh and tell them they got me and it was funny and they will then run in to stay.....they really are neat little things and I sure do love them....and so Glad that I decided to get them.....:)

I think I broke the girls hearts yesterday. Put away the pool for the winter since we don't have water on outside anymore and it was getting stinky. Thinking about running a hose from inside the house (that's at least 200 feet though) or from the rain barrel. We have been getting so much rain, I'm sure we could fill the pool in no time! They were standing there staring at the empty space heads all bobbing like where did it go? What is going on? :hit

Here's my Welsh Harlequin after playing in the mud.

My ducks hav been thrilled with all the rain lately, which has been heavy enough to make a xl puddle big enough for them to bathe in! They didn't even want their breakfast, just the opportunity to play and make more mud.

Poor duckys! Last year at our old house, my husband hauled two gallons of water up from our basement everyday for the ducks. This year at our new farm, we are going to get an "electric hose" that doesn't freeze. We now have 14 ducks instead of the 6 we had last year and I shudder to think of the noise they would make complaining about no pool!

I've been filling just a 9 gallon pool for the past few days because I've had to put medication in all the drinking water that the chickens, turkeys, and stupid guineas have access to, but this morning I fillled the duck kiddie pool too and you should have seen how excited the ducks were to have their "proper" pool back! They were all having "water zoomies" and doing that intensive bathing where they fluff their feathers all up and furiously flap their wings in the water (and of course, all the extra mating that fresh water requires lol). If it weren't for the fact that I don't eat breakfast until after getting all the poultry up and fed, I don't think I'd be able to pull myself away from watching them each morning. :love
