Hey!

I have 7 Pekin ducks, all but 2 are females. They are about 1 year old. I'm getting 2 eggs a day when i should be getting 5. the 2 that are laying started a while ago. Why aren't the other ones laying?

Also, im getting a few more different breeds soon, What are some good broody ducks? And how do you know when they are broody? is there something you have to do?

Thanks! :)

Also are you sure they aren't laying anywhere... I know alot of people who think their poultry aren't laying then will find a huge nest hidden somewhere.

Our Pekins started laying at 4 to 5 months of age. I thought only 2 were female, but we would up to five eggs a day, so maybe there were more females than I thought. Mine were allowed to free-range, which with the Muscovies this year did help. After a week or so of free-ranging, the Muscovies started laying. Also, as nayeli asked, are you sure they are not laying elsewhere? Our pekins would sometimes just lay eggs wherever they happened to be—the first two were nearly buried in mud next to the water dish.
