Ducks attacked by dog

Wow. I'm sorry, at least she is a responsible dog owner. If you have a fence and her dog tunnelled under/around then she should pay the whole vet bill. If there is a hole in the fence I can understand 50/50 but I can understand your point of view that most people wouldn't spend so much to save a duck too.. but its your duck and her dog shouldn't have been in your yard. I have two dogs and I work hard to keep my other animals safe from them and keep them from being a nusaince to the neighbors.

I would think if she has an egg in the making she will lay that one, this attack may set her egg laying back a while after though, if she hasn't laid an egg by time you take her back to the vet mention it to him.

Okay, thanks for the advice
She stood up (Still on one leg) about 15 mins ago and had some more food and water. She responds to her name, just making sure she has a good sleep now but checking shes still warm and that I take away any poo. Her poo seems to be normal, just less frequent so I hope that is a good sign. It's just so horrible having to wait knowing you can't really do anything more, just hope for the best. Trying not to think of my drake, we buried him in the garden earlier, just trying to focus my energy on making sure she is okay.

It's heartbreaking to lose one but he died a hero for sure trying to protect his mate. I think she has a really good chance of coming through this, was the vet optimistic about her recovery? and eating and drinking are very good signs.

The vet was very on the fence about whether we should stitch her up or put her down. I think at the end of the day it came down to the cost, and we thought she was worth it. I think if she had been as unresponsive as my drake was, and as badly injured as him, I would have put her down. But she was trying so hard to stand up and move around I just needed to give her that chance to heal.
Basically the vet said if she gets over the shock then it's if the biggest wound on her back responds to the staples (they stapled her wounds up) or if it rejects it and comes apart. The nurses said how friendly she was after she woke up, and how she was trying to walk around. They basically said see them on Monday but call if anything doesn't look right. My mum is a nurse so she can have a look at the wounds tomorrow and see what she thinks. I think if any of them don't respond well or get infected then I will have to put her to sleep.

How's your duck doing today?

Hi guys. Mrs duck is doing really well. Her wounds seem to be healing, she's preening herself and starting to do things she used to do before the attack (honk at me and nip at my fingers). Now we can get closer to her we have discovered a clear fracture on the foot she holds up. It's on the middle toe and today we are going to splint it using a duck shoe that I've researched heavily. I think its a clean break so fingers crossed it heals well.
She is finding it hard to take the medicines, she struggles when we have to administer them but she has taken them all and luckily its just once a day.
She seems to have moments of panic and quickened breathing, but after being left alone she comes back to normal. I think this is to be expected for a while, she's been through the loss of her man and an attack.
I am confident she will be okay, provided her foot heals and her wounds continue to come together nicely.
Today I'm going to buy a travel cot to keep her in, it will give her more room to move around once she's splinted.
This has been one of the hardest and most worrying thing I've ever done, but she's worth it.
Any tips on splinting would be fab, I've downloaded a vets guide to it but if anyone with experience doing it for real has any advice that would be cool.
