Ducks diving for fish in their pool.

That's really neat. Though I don't have ducks, I am curious. What kind of fish? Feeder goldfish?
I will answer in way to much detail in case anyone else is considering this...

We have used 3 types of fish so far.

Small comet (feeder) goldfish $17 for 100 - fairly fast and easy to see (for both us and the ducks) best bang for the buck and what was on the video.

Large comet goldfish $17 for 50 - not any faster or stronger than the small ones so they were eaten twice as fast - they may have filled the ducks' bellies better, but they have $17 for 50 lb food for that

Minnows $17 for 100 - faster and harder to see (for both us and the ducks) the ducks had to try harder, but once the pool got down to about 50 fish, they were better at hiding so the ducks stopped hunting them. Also they were even smaller than the small comet goldfish so they were normally swallowed before the duck surfaced making it hard for us to tell when they were successful. The minnows were all gone by the time we cleaned the pool the next week, but we only got to see the ducks hunt them for the first 50 so it was kind of like the large comet goldfish.

I added the second video. This is about 8 minutes after the first video. It is a little faster than 1/3 speed. This was a good point when most of the ducks were diving. Seeing them swim under water is neat. I want to see if I can find an underwater case for my phone so I can film one of these sessions from inside the pool.

Took another flick of fishing today. Don't know yet what if anything will be usable since I took it underwater and therefore blind. However skimming through it I found this frame. It is Tevye surfacing after the first time he swam underwater using his feet instead of his wings (today I think he also caught his first fish

YAY, go Tevyekins! I love him so, so much, Gentila, you have no idea. He's such a cute, silly little underdog my heart just melts for him. Is he affectionate with you and your wife?

He was before Kaine went crazy. Now he is mostly wary. I'm sure he will be back to being sweet when Kaine is sane again. (hoping about another month - Kaine is starting to get slightly less intense now.)

This is one of my favourite activities with ducks! It was fun in the kiddie pools but as you said the fish dont last long. I build them a sizable pond. I get feeder gold fish from the pet store every other week or so. I am pretty cautious about how much fish I give them as I love eating the eggs and have heard that too much fish in the diet makes the eggs fishy and also the meat. I have one or two laying pretty regularly. I havent noticed any fishy flavour in their eggs and LOVE watching them dive for the fish. I think I have solved the problem of the tiny fish being sucked up into the filter. well see....time to head to the fish store ;-)
