Hi,
I was wondering that if let my ducks freerange with the chickens, would they come back to their coop every nite and I could go lock them up without having to round them up?
Thanks!

You may have to herd them or bribe them. I think that they will eventually learn the routine. We like to give our peas once they are all inside for the night.

I herded mine for a week or so. They are so easy to direct. Now they go to bed with the chickens. I think my oldest pullets herded them to the coop after I stopped at first.

Peas are the best duck motivator on the planet! And I've found ducks are easier to herd than our other poultry - I use a broom in each hand, and raise the one opposite of the direction I want them to go.

they just need to learn where and when to got to their coop, So like everyone is saying, just herd them for a little while and they will get the routine., Try and do it around the same time everyday though.

Ducks are much smarter than chickens.
I holler "Bedtime!" and they come thundering down the hill. They have always been easy to get to go back into their pen but do like to hang out eating and drinking until dark and then coop up.

I get the yard rake after the chickens.

I was told ducks want to be safe and sheltered. When we first set up our coop we didn't finish until almost dark, then we set their food and water out in front of the coop and after they ate and drank they went in on their own. Now they go in on thier own unless we need to put them to bed early them we just go behind them and walk towards the coop and they go right in.

Even the wild ducks I rehabilitated and kept from becoming pets came into the shelter every evening easily.
