Ducks in the coop?

I have a new developement on my ducks laying their eggs where ever. Apparently the eggs layed in the middle of the coop, by the water dish and in th the oyster shells were decoys to keep me from looking for the main clutch. Or at least that is what I think, because I found a clutch of duck eggs this morning. When I tried to count the eggs in the clutch I had one angry duckie. I decided to leave the eggs up there, they will hatch when they hatch, that way mommy duck doesn't kill me. I am still thinking those other eggs were decoys, if so , smartest ducks ever!

Resourceful little critters!

in response to your ducks being housed at night--yes they need to be housed-- it will take around 10 days to train them to go in to their house. after that, they get the idea. my duck/chicken house is one big house. the inside is set up for the ducks in one part with hardware cloth partitioning them off from the chickens(ducks are messier than chickens) --so my chickens and ducks socialize and it is normal to see them hanging out with each other through out the day(free range) occasionally, the ducks wont come off the pond at nite because something has spooked them. everytime that happens I loose a duck or 2.
lock everyone up at nite. don't think that a raccoon or an opossum or a fox cant find a way to get into your pen!
goodluck!
