Ducks Injured Leg/Foot

@ducks12345 , sorry, I stopped receiving notifications to this thread.

The foot angulation you're seeing is something all too common with Pekins, and unfortunately, the prognosis of these birds tends to be poor, especially as they age, since their bones become more set in place and less likely to be corrected via nutritional therapy, or an external coaptation device.

If the duck's leg has been off for quite some time, it's likely the problem originated due to a lack of niacin, which is a common problem as many feed chicken feed to ducks, which lacks the amount of niacin they need.

Supportive care can oftentimes help manage the problem but seldom will cure the issue. If you notice an improvement when the splint is on, I would say continue to use it; here are a few ideas:

Supplementing the bird's diet with niacin, and other B vitamins, keeping him on soft grounds to reduce the chance of pressure sores, and allowing him to swim in deep water often can help prevent a lot of the secondary problems associated with lack of exercise, and hygine. Some folks, create slings for the ducks to get their weight off the ground, but looking at it from a welfare perspective, we have to consider if the bird is enjoying life, and whether euthanasia would be best.

In regards to your female cut bill, I suggest flushing it well with water or saline, and apply an antibacterial ointment once, or twice a day. It is minor and should heal fine.
