Ducks mailed and still not arrived yet!

Yeah, they really are crummy in general. Though I have to say our local mailman is SO nice and better than all the other's we've dealt with. They would just toss packages on the ground by the mailbox at the end of our driveway if they didn't fit. He always walks our packages to the door with a friendly smile.

The box also clearly stated 2 day mail. It must have just been the weather. Poor little ducklings. My teen boy is outside digging a hole to bury them right now.

The post office from a city two hours away called us today. FedEx brought them in and they're all dead. I'm thinking of just refunding all the ducks and going with Meyer Hatchery. They sell the same breeds and they're only an hour and a half away, so we would just go pick them up. I'm tired of this mail order stuff. It's just too heartbreaking. The only problem is that my fiancé and I both work full time, so one of us would have to take the day off to go get them.

I'm very sorry. If you could pick them up I think that is the better option. Or you can even have them shipped and they should arrive by the next morning.

So sorry. even though you knew this was going to be the out come still very heart breaking.Maybe wait till weather is more stable to.

Just FYI- I ordered ducks and chickens (3 different hatchery's 400-600 miles apart) that were to ship Monday as well and 2 of 3 boxes shipped. One was not shipped because of the weather and the other 2 arrived on Saturday (all DOA). Our local feed store had turkeys coming from another hatchery and his didn't arrive by Friday either. I had this happen once before with ducks that were in the mail stream 4 days with no weather issues anywhere and the tracking info was useless. Now, I worked at the post office for years and I know that every facility "has" to scan those bar codes when they arrive and when they leave. No scans except customer entry (not a "real" scan) and delivery to me DOA. I never did get an answer last time as to where the boxes were for 4 days with no info. I will always use express if I must order through the mail...Priority shipping is not guaranteed and that is not a hatchery issue. I would gladly pay a live animal fee if it would get them better handling.

Very sorry to hear of another, what do you think just very poor handling by USPS? No telling how many dead poultry are laying out there in boxes to be collected.

I was misinformed. FedEx didn't bring them in, but their services were also delayed this week due to bad weather. The USPS said no planes were in the air for a couple days or so. I don't think it was poor handling, just bad weather and delays.

So if nothing else happens from all of this maybe next year folks will wait till weather improves before ordering.

I'm so sorry. If you have a hatchery that close I bet even if you mail order them there is no way they'd get lost or delayed.
