Ducks Mating With Chickens?

I have 2 White Pekin ducks - both male. They are chasing my hens all day long trying to mate with them! I started to receive a couple soft egg shells from my hens for the first time ever and feel the ducks might be causing stress to my hens. How do I get my ducks to leave my chickens alone? The ducks are relentless and very forceful! Any helpful tips or feedback would be much appreciated! The hens and ducks were raised together from being days old and have been together for about a year.

I had the same scenario last year. I had 2 pekin drakes trying to mate with the hens. Drakes can injure a hen since they have parts that roosters don't have and could cause prolapse. You have a few choices here. You could separate them, sell them, or what I did, butcher them. In the end, it is your choice.

You have to separate them, male ducks have penises while roosters do not, and they can and will kill hens while mating them.

You could also separate them and get the Drake's some female ducks.

Keeping Drakes with no other ducks, yes they are going to try to mate your chickens. You could either buy more females ducks, around 8-10 would be good for two males. Or you sperate the males into there own pen so they couldn't mate with the chickens or the final option would be to butcher or rehome the males.

I recommend aging the processed birds for two or three days in the fridge before cooking or freezing to be cooked some other time. This will go a long way in tenderizing the meat.
