I have had chickens for five years now, one coop, big run and lots of free ranging...I have heard mixed reviews about mixing them with ducks, most recently from a guy in town who raises chickens and says he’s always had ducks in his coops and they get along fine.
Thoughts on this? I’d love to get a few, for laying but mostly to add to my level of fun and entertainment. I’m a nurse, and right now, I need a little, but should I steer clear of ducks and just get some new chicks instead? They would be in the same coop, and share everything.
Thank you for your thoughts!

My ducks an chicken share a large coop. All were hatched here. The thing that has to be taken into consideration is introductions. Your chickens will need to get use to ducks sharing their space. Best way is set up a see not touch area and let them live side by side for a while. If they free range that may work pretty fast but inside in the coop is where trouble can come unless separated for a time. And no food an water inside Ducks are slobs!

Life and living with them might also be easier and less worrying if you only do females as well. Then you won't have to worry about drakes and getting your hens.
