Ducks-Nature's antidepressant

agreed with every one, but as some know my goose just became my depressant by being killed probably by a coon, but know i go into the coop, hold my birds and smile a little.

Thank you easttxchick I miss him very much. I hope you are getting through your dark time. Not to worry rcn11thacr you will get through things just fine. Went through it myself a long time ago and my kids did just fine. Sometimes they are better off this way. Luckily they will have fun stories to tell with all the critters you have now.

I have yet to find anyone (other them MY relatives) that doesn't get tons of pleasure from critters. Sorry, my family are city folk and want nothing to do with my lifestyle....... lol. They are missing out. Once I get a hold of the neices and nephews things will be very different, if you know what I mean........... HAHAHA!! Ya gotta love young kids...... hehehe.

This thread warmed my heart. Thank you.

I always say.... I can be having the most rotten day ever, but if I take the time to go out and just watch my ducks for awhile, maybe bring them some treats, I come back in with a big ole grin on my face EVERY time.

Yeah my family are the same way, but I have to keep telling friendsd, what friends we do have and if/when my family do come up, "Love me, Love my animals." It is who I am and what I am. You aren't going to change me to be "Martha Stuart" and have a house or yard that looks professionally done up. My house will be one that looks lived in. I do take pride in my home and yard, and family. But if you come and visit on a bad day when I just haven't been able to "get to things" sorry Charlie, it is what it is. They don't know how I do it and keep up with it all. Well, my 11 rabbits, 11 ducks, Great Dane, 2 cats, 2 guine pigs, and my 2 sons with ADHD keep me incredibly on the go insanely busy. But it brings me happiness and keeps me busy to keep my mind off my husband being in Afghanistan and the worry.

Ducks are just the riot, aren't they? I loved my 2 and 2 geese. The high point of my often black day last spring was to take the duckies & geese for their 'swimming lessons' in our big jacuzzi bath tub. The sheer joy and abandon of those babies in all that water was just lovely to watch and no matter what, I made sure they got their lessons. Unfortunately, I no longer have them, but this spring I'll have another safer area and will get more. I miss them incredibly! And I'm one of the people who always said the only good bird was under glass. Hah! What an idiot!

FunnyBunnies12 it sounds like we are one in the same....... lol. The same goes around here too. My neighbors and friends all love my life style and they tell me so. My late husbands side also love animals so that's a huge plus. My family....... they don't know what they are missing.

MysticalMom this thread is very heartwarming. It's nice to know you share the same feelings with others and that the posts can make you feel warm and fuzzy inside. We could always use more posts like these.

I am so glad so many of you have had wonderful experiences with your ducks as well.
Roocrazy-I'm so sorry about your goose.

This weekend DH and I went to the big show up in Shawnee, OK. I figured he would grump and gripe about the trip, the expense, etc. Not so, he hung in there at the show hall til late Friday night, ALL day Saturday and we made a 2 hour stop there yesterday morning before heading back on our 10 hour trip.
The BEST PART is that while I was looking around and meeting folks, I lost DH for about an hour. Duckluck was there as well(we hung out together all weekend-she is AWESOME) and she told me I was about to be the owner of another pair of White Calls...I was a bit puzzled, but turns out, my husband bought a beautiful pair of Whites from an amazing breeder. Before it was all said and done, he bought HIMSELF 2 pairs of Call Ducks(whites and grays) and has MADE SURE that I know that these were HIS ducks.
When we got home late last night, we were trying to get all of the duckies settled from their trip and he fussed and fussed over them.
The trip to the show and getting to meet Duckluck and some fantastic, knowledgeable breeders sealed the deal for my DH and the Calls-he had a fantastic time and came home with some of his own ducks.
Just wanted to share another ducky success story.

Duck are a good example for humans, they live in the moment, and some how manage to stay there! Most people I know cant do that. Think about it why is a duck pond scene so peaceful? Because when two ducks bump into each other they quack flap there wings, get it out, and get over it, swim away and never look back, I have a hard time doing that in my own life, But truth be told if ducks acted like humans.....well they would let their minds wonder and say, They bumped me on purpose, jerk, Next time I am going to show him!!! Hence the beginning of a duck war! We all need to be more like ducks and let the water roll off our shoulders so to speak! I love my ducks!!!!

I have to admit, the ducks are the most comical next to young chickens learning to free range and testing out those wings.

I was "Chicken Sitting" and let the girls out for yard time. I laughed my butt off when two young EE started chasing a grasshopper through the grass. They were so uncoordinated the grasshopper really didn't have much to worry about!

But nothing is more of an example of pure joy than a duck in water. Sprinkler, puddle, kiddie pool, stock pond, bathtub, small bucket barely bigger than their fluffy butt....doesn't mater.

Well, Uno looks a little grumpy in this one, but that made me laugh too. A duck with an attitude is a humorous thing
