Ducks. o.o

Bread would be a good way to get the ducks.. make a line from the pond to your house.
Good point, anytime I need to bring my ducks/chickens in from free ranging all I have to do is bring out the bag of W/w bread. works everytime.

She'll have to build trust between them before she can bring them home but seems like food is the best way to a ducks heart. Hope you can bring them home...oh and forgot to say, right below our home is a Mountain river and the ducks could easily walk down to it, but they are perfectly happy in their pools, one a kiddiee pool the other a 50 gal stock tank.

Haha.... I think I'd use a LOT of bread to get them home that way. The pond is over a mile away up our road. :p

But bread is definitely a good idea. I'll have to find some other way to get them here if I do get them. Any other ideas? She'd probably flip out if I picked her up...

What about a trap of some sort. Like maybe a wire dog cage. Set it by the pond with the door open, put bread inside at the back of it. Hide closeby and when she and her babies go after the bread slowly sneak up and close the door. Load the cage (and ducks) into a pickup, take 'em home and put 'em in a pen. It may scare them a little when you close the door on the dog cage but they'll get over that after they learn to trust you.

Just a thought and worth a try. You would at least save them from predators, right?

Very good idea, I did basically the same thing when i rescued 3 ducks from the river, i used a dog X pen and opened it at the river and began feeding them scratch grains and bread at the back it still took close to a week but these guys had been on the river for a while and were pretty hungry plus i had been feeding them for about a month before i tried to catch them. I'd put the food in and sit pretty far away then each day I'd get closer and closer till I was close enough to close it up while they were eating.Since she has babies she is going to be very leary of anyone coming around, so take it slow.
