Good point, anytime I need to bring my ducks/chickens in from free ranging all I have to do is bring out the bag of W/w bread. works everytime.Bread would be a good way to get the ducks.. make a line from the pond to your house.
Marty I'm thinking to win these this mama duck over quick before preds get her and the ducklings she's gonna have to bring out the big guns[ junk food] just till she gets them home.My ducks will endure people for good snacks. They also love Kale, btw.
Very good idea, I did basically the same thing when i rescued 3 ducks from the river, i used a dog X pen and opened it at the river and began feeding them scratch grains and bread at the back it still took close to a week but these guys had been on the river for a while and were pretty hungry plus i had been feeding them for about a month before i tried to catch them. I'd put the food in and sit pretty far away then each day I'd get closer and closer till I was close enough to close it up while they were eating.Since she has babies she is going to be very leary of anyone coming around, so take it slow. What about a trap of some sort. Like maybe a wire dog cage. Set it by the pond with the door open, put bread inside at the back of it. Hide closeby and when she and her babies go after the bread slowly sneak up and close the door. Load the cage (and ducks) into a pickup, take 'em home and put 'em in a pen. It may scare them a little when you close the door on the dog cage but they'll get over that after they learn to trust you.
Just a thought and worth a try. You would at least save them from predators, right?
