Ducks Raised For Meat

Happy dog, ducks are easier to pluck when they are fully feathered. They get their juvenile plumage, and that's a good time to butcher. Then they quickly start growing their adult feathers, so if you wait too long, there will be a lot of those new feathers in the pin feather stage to clean.

Once the adult plumage is in, again they are easier to pluck without the pin feathers.

Happy Dog, your Anconas will be lovely to eat.

Butcher days fall between 6 1/2 to 10 weeks. If you miss that, you can wait 6-10 weeks more for them to be fully feathered again. If you pick the duck up and feel on the breast, you can feel pin feathers if the duck has them.

Does anyone know if duck poop is as smelly or smellier than chicken poop?
